2019 Advanced Practice Salary Report Shows PAs with Over 10 Years of Experience Earn $152,565

Melnic Consulting Group 2019 PA and NP Salary Guide

Melnic Consulting Group recently released its 2019 Advanced Practice Salary Guide, showing an increase in PA and NP salaries by 2-3%. Melnic releases an annual salary guide to help PAs, APRNs and hospital staffing leaders. The salary guide is based on data they collect from a salary survey the prior year.

Melnic is a nationwide search firm focused on placements of APRNs and PAs. They have been in service for over 20 years and their hope is to have successful placements for both candidates and employers.

Last year’s report indicated a plateau in salaries for PAs and NPs. This year’s report suggests that gains in salaries may continue to slow down, and there will be a shift to different models of payment, with higher emphasis on incentives and bonus structure. The report included over 2030 APRNs and PAs, who were surveyed from January 1 – December 31, 2018.

The report shows salaries by years of experience, with those with more experience having higher salaries. For PA new grads the average salary was $104,000 and those with over 10 years of experience earning $152,565.  NP salaries were slightly lower, with new graduates earning $103,733 and those with over 10 years of experience earning $136,167.

As with previous data, this year’s report showed that salaries were highest in the West; with the high cost of living in California accounting for the increased salaries.

The guide also discusses other benefits; no longer is health insurance a guaranteed benefit, with only 60% of people receiving it through their employers. The rising cost of health care makes it more important to take it into account when choosing an employer. In general, benefits are worth an additional 22-30% of base salary.

The biggest downside to this salary report is the low response rate. They have a goal of collecting over 5,000 responses for the 2019 salary survey and if you complete the salary survey you’ll get a FREE copy of the most recent report. If you find the report helpful please encourage your friends to complete the survey as well!
