Using Questions to Start a Negotiation
After graduation, the next step in your PA career is finding a job. I mentioned some negation tips in last week’s post to help in the job search. Here are six questions to ask in negotiation from an article from Job Assist Now. Asking questions instead of making demands is a great strategy when negotiating. It allows you to show empathy to the person you’re talking to and gives you a better understanding of where they are coming from, opening up discussion on what you want. When you make demands, it often puts the other side on the defensive, and sometimes this leads to them putting up a wall. Check out the original article for a further explanation of each question.
Am I allowed to negotiate the salary?
How did you arrive at this salary?
What else is negotiable?
Can I get a breakdown of the income and savings?
What are the chances of salary raises in the future?
Could you provide the terms in writing?
