What You May Have Missed from the AAPA Conference 2017
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the PA profession was one of the many highlights of the AAPA (American Academy of Physician Assistants) Conference 2017 in Las Vegas. It was once again a great opportunity for learning and advocacy for the PA profession. If you weren’t able to attend the conference this year, here are some of the highlights from my experience.
I think the biggest news was that members of the House of Delegates voted to approve Optimal Team Practice. This policy reemphasizes the commitment to team based care and reaffirms that the degree of collaboration between PAs and physicians should be done at the practice level.
Other big news was the battle between AAPA and NCCPA about maintenance of certification. The AAPA was actively pushing against the NCCPA on this topic and was even handing out “Say NO to NCCPA Lobbying” buttons. Here’s a video discussing the topic:
If you missed the general session the guest speaker, ZdoggMD gave a great speech on the current state of health care and challenges to providing effective, patient centered care. If you’re an AAPA member the talk is supposed to be on Learning Central at some point.
There were a lot of great cme sessions that you may have missed and you can catch a lot of these on Conference on Demand in learning central. The AAPA 2017 conference is not online yet but should be posted in the future.
If you missed out on the AAPA Conference 2017 there’s plenty of time to start planning on attending the AAPA Conference 2018 in New Orleans. Registration usually starts around November so keep your eye out on the AAPA website for more details. Hope to see you there next year!
