The Highest and Lowest Paying States for PAs
A recent article in Forbes shows the top and bottom states for PA salary. Connecticut had the highest average salary of $125,610; Washington, Alaska, Hawaii and California round out the top five highest paying states for PAs. The lowest paying state for PAs was Mississippi with an average salary of $81,130.
The data from the article comes from the BLS, which showed an average salary of $108,610 in 2019. As with other PA salary reports this was an increase from previous years.
The data from the Forbes article is slightly different compared to a report from U.S. News and World Report, where Washington, New Jersey, Nevada, North Dakota and Hawaii had the highest salaries for PAs.

One thing to keep in mind when looking at salaries in different states is the cost of living in each state. In a state such as Hawaii or California where the cost of living is more than other states your salary is going to be worth less.
Another thing to keep in mind is the city that you live can have a significant impact on cost of living. In the state of Washington there is a big difference in the cost of living around the Seattle area compared to the rest of the state.
The common theme we have seen in all salary reports is that PA salaries have been increasing from year to year, and PA job growth is projected to outpace other fields.
